Who We Are – Certichron sells provable time through our nationwide network of NIST-calibrated time-service centers. Compared to free time services such as radio signals from NIST or GPS or anonymous Internet time servers (that have been shown to be inadequate as verifiable time sources), Certichron provides a simple and cost effective means of ensuring that your network, applications and servers meet regulatory and audit requirements and reduce litigation risk. Certichron hosts 25% of the NIST public timeservers on the Internet and is the single largest provider of NIST-calibrated time outside of the Federal government.
What We Do – Certichron provides organizations with a direct connection to NIST-calibrated time services. The link is a private, dedicated connection and avoids the security, evidence and performance risks arising from unauthenticated Internet and GPS time sources. Certichron’s authentication, digital certification and event monitoring functionality extend the basic Network Time Protocol (NTP) service available on most computers to provide verification and proof of the source and accuracy of time settings.
Why This Matters – Businesses are increasingly dependent on the complex integration of applications and systems, whether it be consolidating financial reports within the corporation, wiring money or moving data to the “Cloud”. Ultimately, this data from disparate sources needs to be consolidated into valid transaction records and the “glue” that holds all of this together is time. If the time stamps are not consistent, the integrity of the data is undermined. With growing regulation (PCI DSS, OATS, SOX, GLBA, etc.) and judicial intervention (Lorraine v. Markel and In re Vinhnee), the management of time has evolved from an issue of accuracy to an issue of verification and proof.
